The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has started the online application process for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2027 for admission to Class VI in the academic session 2027–28. Eligible students studying in Class V can submit their applications online free of cost within the prescribed dates.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are among India’s premier residential schools, established by the Government of India to provide quality education to talented rural children. Admission is granted through the JNV Selection Test (JNVST), a national-level entrance examination conducted every year by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

Students seeking admission to any of the 30 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Assam (29 districts + 1 special JNV) must qualify in this entrance examination.

About Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas were established under the National Policy on Education, 1986 to provide quality residential education to talented students, particularly from rural areas. These schools are fully funded and managed by the Government of India through the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

At present, there are 665 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas functioning across 27 States and 8 Union Territories, including 30 JNVs in Assam.

Eligibility Criteria

Residence

Applicants should ordinarily belong to the district in which they are applying for admission and should be studying in a recognized school within the same district. Special provisions for neighbouring districts are applicable as per NVS guidelines.

Age Limit

Candidates should be born between 1st May 2015 and 31st July 2017 (both dates inclusive).

Educational Qualification

The applicant must be studying in Class V during the academic session 2026–27 in a Government, Government-aided, Government-recognized school or a recognised NIOS ‘B’ Certificate course in the same district.

Number of Attempts

A student is allowed to appear in the JNV Selection Test only once.

Rural Reservation

As per NVS policy, 75% of the available seats in every district are reserved for students from rural areas. To claim this reservation, candidates must have completed Classes III, IV and V in Government or Government-recognized rural schools of the concerned district.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test Details

The selection test will be of two-hour duration from 11:30 am to 01:30 pm and will have 3 sections with only objective type questions. There are 80 questions in all for 100 marks.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test – 2027 Date

JNV Selection Test for admission to Class-VI in JNVs for the academic session 2027 – 2028 will be held on the Saturday, 28 November 2026 at 11.30 A.M. in one phase for all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas of Assam.

Admit Cards of Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test

The admit cards will be made available as per date decided by NVS in due course which will be displayed on application portal. The admit cards shall be downloaded free of cost by the candidates/parents before the conduct of JNVST 2027.

Assam JNV Admission Result

The result of JNV Selection Test 2027 is expected to be announced by March, 2027. Candidates can get the result from the application portal. The result will also be displayed in the offices of the concerned:

i. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
ii. District Education Officer
iii. District Magistrate
iv. Deputy Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti of the Region.

The Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya concerned, will also inform the provisionally selected candidates through SMS on the registered mobile number followed by a speed post. The entire admission process for the session 2027 – 2028 will be closed latest by 31st August 2027.
