The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reopened the online application process for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) September 2026. The reopening gives eligible candidates another opportunity to submit their CTET application form.

The CTET is a national-level eligibility examination for candidates who wish to pursue teaching careers at the primary and elementary school levels. Candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility requirements can apply through the official CTET portal.

As per the latest update, the reopened application window is available from 25 August 2026 to 1 September 2026. Candidates who had already submitted their applications successfully during the earlier window do not need to apply again.

Important Update: CBSE has reopened the CTET September 2026 application portal following a review petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Eligible candidates who could not apply during the previous application period can use this opportunity to complete their application.

CTET September 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must satisfy the educational requirements prescribed for the respective CTET paper. The eligibility conditions are based on the norms notified by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and other applicable authorities.

CTET Paper I – Classes I to V

Candidates seeking eligibility for teaching Classes I to V may qualify through any of the applicable routes, including:

  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education as per applicable NCTE regulations.
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks along with B.Ed., subject to the applicable conditions.

CTET Paper II – Classes VI to VIII

For teaching Classes VI to VIII, the applicable qualifications include routes such as:

  • Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year B.Ed.
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and B.Ed. as permitted under applicable NCTE regulations.
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.El.Ed.
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

Candidates pursuing recognized teacher-education programmes may also be eligible under the applicable CTET guidelines.

CTET September 2026 Application Fee

The examination fee depends on the candidate’s category and whether they are appearing for one paper or both papers.
