The Government of Assam (Higher Education Department) has officially launched the online registration process for the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award 2026 under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme. Eligible students who scored 80% or higher in their Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examinations can apply online for a free electric or petrol-driven scooter.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Merit Award 2026, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
- Domicile: Must be a permanent resident of Assam.
- Academic Performance: Must have secured 80% or above in the HS Final Examination 2026 conducted by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).
- Out-of-State Students: Assam domicile holders studying outside the state remain eligible provided they hold a valid Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC).
- Exclusions: Students under the Betterment or Reappearance categories are not eligible for this grant.
- Scheme Interlocking: Beneficiaries opting for the free scooty cannot claim benefits under the Nijut Moina Scheme. However, girl students who choose to opt out of the scooty award remain eligible to apply for Nijut Moina.

How to Apply Online
Eligible candidates can complete their application in a few simple steps:
- Visit Official Web Portal: Go to the official Directorate of Higher Education website (
directorateofhighereducation.assam.gov.in). - Account Registration: Click on the Pragyan Bharati Application Link and register using your HS 2026 Roll, Number, and Registration Number along with a active mobile number.
- Fill Application Form: Input all personal details, academic scores, and vehicle preference (Electric/Petrol).
- Upload Required Documents: Attach scanned copies of your mark sheet, PRC, identity proof, and photograph.
- Submit & Print: Review your details, submit the application, and save a copy of the acknowledgment receipt for future reference.
Scooter Collection & Distribution Process
Note on Costs: The entire cost of the vehicle, including registration charges, mandatory insurance, and a safety helmet, is fully borne by the Government of Assam. Students are not required to pay anything to the vehicle dealers.
- Beneficiary Verification: The Directorate of Higher Education verifies student details provided by ASSEB.
- Appreciation Certificate: Eligible students collect an official Appreciation Certificate from designated Nodal Principals.
- Dealer Redemption: Students present their Appreciation Certificate to the assigned local dealership to claim their scooter.
- Zero-Cost Handover: The Nodal Principal transfers the registration and insurance funds directly to the dealer, after which the vehicle and free helmet are handed over.
